Discovering a classification, duty or entry-data issue after filing does not automatically mean the same remedy is available in every case. The entry's status and liquidation timing matter.

Post Summary Correction

For an eligible entry that remains within the applicable PSC framework, a Post Summary Correction may allow certain entry-summary information to be corrected before liquidation.

Protest

Once CBP has made a protestable decision and the entry has liquidated, a protest may be the relevant administrative mechanism. Protest rights are deadline-driven, so the liquidation date should be reviewed promptly.

Start with the entry record

  • Confirm the entry number and filing history.
  • Determine whether the entry is liquidated.
  • Identify the liquidation date and any applicable deadline.
  • Determine exactly what treatment is being challenged or corrected.
  • Gather the supporting commercial and technical documentation.

The key point is simple: do not wait until the desired remedy is assumed. First determine which procedure remains available.
